Ida
Pawel Pawlikowski · 2014 CE · Film · Polish · Contemporary
A novice in 1960s Poland is told days before her vows that she has an aunt, and that she was born Jewish; the aunt is a hard-drinking state prosecutor who once sent men to their deaths for the Party. They drive out to the countryside to find where the girl's parents are buried. Shot in black and white in the old square frame, with the faces pushed to the bottom of it.
