Allah Is Not Obliged

Ahmadou Kourouma · 2000 CE · Novel · West African · Contemporary

Birahima, a boy of about ten or twelve, tells how he became a child soldier and passed through the Liberian and Sierra Leonean civil wars among warlords and fellow children. He narrates in street French, glossing his own words from four dictionaries. Kourouma's last completed novel, it carries the satirical anger of his earlier The Suns of Independence into the new wars of West Africa.
