Doubt: A Parable
John Patrick Shanley · 2004 CE · Play · Modern / American · Contemporary
In a Bronx Catholic school in 1964, a strict principal suspects a charismatic priest of abusing the first Black pupil, on the strength of one nun's observation and her own conviction. She has no proof and will not yield, and the priest's hold on his congregation complicates the case. Premiered at the Manhattan Theatre Club in 2004, a parable on certainty that never settles the fact in question.
