Randamoozham

M. T. Vasudevan Nair · 1984 CE · Novel · Indian · Contemporary

The war at Kurukshetra and the long years before it are told by Bhima, second of the five brothers, who is sent ahead whenever there is a demon to kill or a burning house to escape and who stands behind Yudhishthira's claim and Arjuna's fame when the credit is handed round. The strength everyone uses is never mistaken for worth, and the wife the five of them share was won by his brother's arrow and knows it. M. T. strips the gods out of the epic and reads it as a family's politics, in what Malayalam readers generally take to be his major work.
