The Pillowman
Martin McDonagh · 2003 CE · Play · English · Contemporary
A writer of grim stories about the murder of children is questioned in an unnamed police state after real killings match his plots. His brother, whom he has protected, is held in the next room. The play interleaves the interrogation with the tales themselves and asks what a story owes the world, and premiered at the National Theatre in 2003; McDonagh is Irish-British and filed under English.
