Kitne Pakistan

A man on the edge of a courtroom outside time hears the dead of the subcontinent summoned to answer for the making of Pakistan and the bloodshed around it, Aurangzeb and Jinnah and Mountbatten among them. Each witness is pressed on what division cost ordinary people, while the narrator is drawn into the case against history itself. Written in Hindi, it won the Sahitya Akademi Award and reached English as Partitions.
