The Shadow of Sirius

W. S. Merwin · 2008 CE · Poem · Modern / American · Contemporary

Unpunctuated late lyrics of memory, of dogs, of a garden in Hawaii and of a mother and a vanished world, shaped by a long attention to what is passing. The title looks to a star that once seemed nearest to the earth. The poet's second Pulitzer Prize; a lyric collection with a settled, elegiac manner.
