The Weather in Japan
Michael Longley · 2000 CE · Poem · English · Contemporary
Short lyrics move between the Mayo coast the poet returns to each year and the trenches in which his father fought, with the Northern Irish ceasefire of the 1990s as a quiet background. Birds and flowers sit beside the dead of two wars. A Northern Irish poet, filed here with English, working in the elegiac pastoral he has made his own.
