A Little Princess
Sara Crewe arrives at a London seminary as the indulged daughter of an officer with a fortune in Indian diamond mines, and Miss Minchin flatters her in proportion to the fees. News of her father's ruin turns her overnight into an unpaid drudge in the attic, where she keeps herself alive by telling stories and behaving as though she were still what she was. Burnett expanded it from her own 1888 serial about the same girl.
