An old man with dementia, his sister and her grandson share a household in the Basque country, haunted by the Himalayan peak of Shisha Pangma, which the old man never climbed. Elorriaga writes the drift of failing memory as a tender and comic fable. A debut novel in Basque, it won Spain's Premio Nacional de Narrativa in 2002.
