A thirteen-year-old boy lives on the margins of a northern Italian town with his violent, unemployed neo-fascist father, who teaches him a code of loyalty and contempt. One night a planned robbery goes wrong and the bond between the two is tested. Ammaniti's novel won the Strega Prize in 2007.
