Blue/Orange

Joe Penhall · 2000 CE · Play · English · Contemporary

A young Black patient in a London psychiatric ward claims to be the son of Idi Amin, and his doctor wants to discharge him after the statutory twenty-eight days. The consultant above the doctor argues for keeping him, and the dispute over whether this is delusion, culture or career becomes a contest over who gets to define sanity. Premiered at the National Theatre in 2000, a three-hander about race and the mental-health system.
