The Manchurian Candidate
An American patrol captured in Korea comes home decorated, each man reciting the same praise of a sergeant none of them liked, and one keeps dreaming of a ladies' garden club that turns into a Soviet lecture hall. He starts checking who the sergeant sees in New York, and a solitaire deck keeps appearing. Its rotating brainwashing set-piece looked eccentric in 1962 and prophetic after Dallas, and it then vanished for years.
