Operation Shylock

Philip Roth · 1993 CE · Novel · Modern / American · Contemporary

Recovering from a drug-induced breakdown, a writer named Philip Roth learns that a man wearing his name and his face is in Jerusalem promoting Diasporism, a scheme to resettle Israeli Jews in the European countries their grandparents fled. He flies out to confront the impostor during the trial of John Demjanjuk and is promptly mistaken for him. Presented as a confession rather than fiction, with a closing note insisting the events are true.
