Carpentaria
In the Gulf of Carpentaria town of Desperance, the Aboriginal Pricklebush people and their patriarch Normal Phantom are at war with the rival Westend family and the mining company that has come to the country. Wright, a member of the Waanyi nation, draws on the cadence of oral storytelling and the Dreaming. It won the 2007 Miles Franklin Award.
