The Green House

Mario Vargas Llosa · 1966 CE · Novel · Latin American · Contemporary

A brothel painted green goes up on the sand outside Piura and burns, then goes up again a generation later; far upriver a mission takes Aguaruna girls from their families and a Japanese trader moves rubber past the law. Five strands run at different speeds and cut into one another mid-scene across forty years. The most technically extreme construction Vargas Llosa ever attempted.
