The Cubs
Mario Vargas Llosa · 1967 CE · Short Story · Latin American · Contemporary
A dog gets into the changing room of a Miraflores boys' school and does something to Cuéllar that the neighbourhood will spend thirty years not saying, while the narration slides between we and he inside a single sentence. Surfing, hair grease and dance parties keep the surface bright as the friends grow into cars, girls and offices and he does not. One continuous shout, written to be read aloud.
