The Time of the Hero
Cadets at the Leoncio Prado academy in Lima run a black market in cigarettes, liquor and stolen examination papers under a sworn brotherhood called the Circle, until a rifle goes missing and one boy informs. On the field exercise that follows a cadet takes a bullet in the head, and the officers set about deciding what sort of accident it was. A thousand copies were burned in the academy courtyard on publication.
