The Bad Girl
Ricardo, a Peruvian translator, loves a woman who reappears under a new name and a new fortune in Paris, London and Tokyo, always to leave him again. Their story runs from the Lima of the 1950s to the end of the century. Several critics have read it as a rewriting of Madame Bovary, but the author's own claim for that is not established here.
