Monster

Hirokazu Kore-eda · 2023 CE · Film · Japanese · Contemporary

A widowed mother in a lakeside town finds her son cutting his own hair, coming home with one shoe, asking whether a human brain can be swapped for a pig's, and goes to his school demanding to know what his teacher has been doing to him. The administrators bow and apologise by formula, the teacher is made to read a statement, and then the same weeks run again from his side and again from the boys'. Yuji Sakamoto's script took the screenplay prize at Cannes, and the score was the last Ryuichi Sakamoto wrote.
