Dark Victory

Edmund Goulding · 1939 CE · Film · Modern / American · Modernist

A Long Island socialite who rides hard and drinks harder keeps getting headaches and dropping things, and the specialist she flirts with through the examination finds a tumour he can only partly remove. She learns what the prognosis really says by reading her own file. Bette Davis called it her favourite of her own work; it went into an awards year against Gone with the Wind and lost everything it was nominated for.
