The Wings of the Dove

Henry James · 1902 CE · Novel · Modern / American · Modernist

Kate Croy and Merton Densher are engaged in secret because neither has money and Kate's aunt will cut her off. Into their London comes Milly Theale, a young American with a great fortune, no family left and an illness nobody names, and Kate sees what the situation might yield if Densher will simply go to Venice and be kind to her. James's favourite of the late novels, and the one whose plot is a moral trap for everyone in it.
