Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

J. K. Rowling · 1998 CE · Novel · English · Contemporary

A house-elf turns up in the Surrey bedroom to warn the boy not to return to school, then sets about wrecking his summer to make sure of it. At the castle a message about a chamber reopened is written on a wall in blood, pupils are found petrified one after another, and the boy learns he can talk to snakes, which the school takes as evidence against him. The second year hardens the comedy into a whodunit.
