In Cold Blood

Truman Capote · 1966 CE · Narrative Non-fiction · Modern / American · Contemporary

On a November night in 1959 four members of a farming family were killed in their house outside Holcomb, Kansas, by two ex-convicts who had driven four hundred miles on a rumour of a safe. Capote spent six years on the case, interviewing the town, the investigators and both men at length, and cut the account between the victims' last day and the killers' route. The nonfiction novel he claimed to invent remade American reportage.
