Gary Gilmore comes out of prison to Provo, Utah in 1976, falls in with a young woman named Nicole, and within three months has shot two men for nothing. Sentenced to die, he refuses to appeal and demands the state get on with it, and the lawyers, reporters and rights groups descend on Utah. True crime written flat as scripture.
