On the Waterfront

Elia Kazan · 1954 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary

Terry Malloy, an ex-boxer running errands for the union boss who controls the New York docks, helps set up a longshoreman who was about to testify. The dead man's sister and a waterfront priest press him toward saying what he knows, while his older brother works for the mob. 'I coulda been a contender' — a dockworker's conscience against the mob that owns him.
