The Ox-Bow Incident

William A. Wellman · 1943 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary

Word reaches a Nevada town that a rancher has been shot and his cattle driven off, and a posse forms in the street before the sheriff can be found, riding out to a canyon where three men are camped with cattle and no bill of sale. One of them asks to write a letter to his wife. Wellman shot almost the whole thing on a soundstage under painted skies, and Fox expected it to lose money, which it comfortably did.
