All My Sons
An apple tree planted for a pilot missing three years has come down in the night in the Kellers' back yard, and his mother takes the loss as an argument that he is still alive. His father runs a machine shop that shipped cracked cylinder heads to the Air Force in the war and let his partner go to prison for it; the surviving son now wants to marry the partner's daughter. Miller built it on Ibsen's method of a buried past surfacing over a single day, after his first Broadway play closed in four nights.
