Viva Zapata!

Elia Kazan · 1952 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary

A delegation of Morelos farmers asks Porfirio Díaz for the return of land fenced off by the haciendas, and one of them speaks out of turn and has his name circled on the list. Emiliano Zapata takes to the hills, raises an army for Madero's revolution, and on reaching the presidential desk is asked the questions he once came to ask. Steinbeck wrote the script; Kazan, testifying to the House committee that year, directed.
