Fargo
Joel Coen, Ethan Coen · 1996 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary
A Minneapolis car salesman in debt hires two men to kidnap his own wife so that her wealthy father will pay a ransom he intends to skim, and the pickup goes wrong on a highway shoulder outside Brainerd. The pregnant chief of a small-town police force works the bodies backwards with complete calm. An opening card claims the events are true; the brothers invented them and let the claim stand.
