The Maltese Falcon

John Huston · 1941 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary

A San Francisco detective takes a job tailing a man for a woman with an implausible story, his partner is shot dead that night, and the police like him for it while a fat man, a Levantine and a young gunman converge on a black statuette with a long history. Huston shot from a script following Hammett almost line for line, in low ceilings and hard shadow. His first job directing, and the usual marker for where noir begins.
