Witness for the Prosecution

Billy Wilder · 1957 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary

A London barrister recovering from a heart attack takes the defence of a charming drifter accused of murdering the widow who left him her money. The case turns on the testimony of the man's Austrian wife, who appears for the prosecution rather than the defence. Wilder closed it with a spoken plea that audiences not give the ending away, and Christie thought it the best film made from her work.
