The Seven Year Itch

A paperback editor sends his wife and son to Maine for the summer, resolves to give up smoking and drinking, and discovers that the girl subletting the flat upstairs keeps her underwear in the icebox. Alone in a Manhattan heat wave, he conducts an elaborate imaginary affair and an equally elaborate imaginary confession. The Code obliged Wilder to remove the adultery the stage original had turned on.
