The Apartment
Billy Wilder · 1960 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary
A clerk in a Manhattan insurance company lends his apartment key to executives who need somewhere to take women, and is promoted floor by floor for it. The personnel director takes the key too, and the elevator operator the clerk has been working up the nerve to ask out is the woman being brought there. The last black-and-white winner of Best Picture for forty years, and Wilder's sharpest work on the price of getting ahead.
