Framley Parsonage

Anthony Trollope · 1861 CE · Novel · English · Victorian

A young clergyman given a good living by his patroness starts dining with the county's fast set and puts his name to a bill for a member of parliament who has no intention of paying it. His sister meanwhile is loved by the patroness's son, which the patroness will not have. Serialized as the opening number of the Cornhill under Thackeray, it made Trollope a household name and brought in the perpetual curate Josiah Crawley.
