Sense and Sensibility

Jane Austen · 1811 CE · Novel · English · Romantic

Three sisters and their mother, cut out of the family estate by the terms of a will, move to a cottage in Devon on a small income. The elder guards her attachment to a reserved young man; the younger falls publicly and completely for a charming stranger, and both discover that the men's futures are controlled by money and older relatives. Austen's first published work, and her sharpest test of feeling against judgement.
