Key Largo
An army major stops at a shut-up hotel in the Florida Keys to see the widow and father of a man who died under his command, and finds the place held by guests who will not let anyone leave. Their host is a deported racketeer waiting out a hurricane for a boat to Havana, and the major is done sticking his neck out. Huston and Richard Brooks moved Maxwell Anderson's verse drama to the postwar rackets and kept it in the lobby.
