Leaves of Narcissus
Somaya Ramadan · 2001 CE · Novel · Arabic · Contemporary
A young Egyptian woman's life breaks apart between Cairo and Dublin as she tries to hold together her sense of herself and her ties to her family. Her narration moves between voices and times, and Joyce and Woolf are named presences in the telling. It won the first Naguib Mahfouz Medal, and is a landmark of experimental Egyptian women's writing.
