Little Women
A young woman selling stories to a New York editor who wants the heroine married or dead by the last page is set against the Concord childhood those stories come out of, the two timeframes cut against each other scene by scene. Gerwig keeps Alcott's episodes but reorders them so that the warm years arrive in cold light and the writing of the book becomes the plot. The restructuring is the argument, and it makes the negotiation over an ending part of the story rather than its resolution.
