Sentimental Value
After their mother's death, two sisters find their estranged father — a fading film director — back in the family house in Oslo, wanting the actress daughter to play his own mother, a resistance member tortured in the war, in the film he means to make about her. When the daughter refuses, he casts a visiting American star instead, and the production becomes a negotiation over who owns a family's grief. Its Grand Prix at Cannes preceded the first Best International Feature Oscar Norway has ever won.
