Shadow Country

Peter Matthiessen · 2008 CE · Novel · Modern / American · Contemporary

Edgar J. Watson, a planter in the Florida Everglades, is killed by his neighbours in 1910 on the Chokoloskee shore, after years of rumours. A chorus of voices, then his son's, then the man's own, tries to say what the killers wanted to erase. Matthiessen condensed his Watson trilogy into this single volume, which won the National Book Award for Fiction.
