Slowness

Milan Kundera · 1995 CE · Novel · Czech · Contemporary

A man and his wife drive out to a chateau turned hotel, and on the road he retells an eighteenth-century tale in which a young man is taken to just such a house by a woman conducting a single night's seduction. At the same chateau a congress of entomologists is under way, with a camera-hungry intellectual, a Czech scientist back from twenty years of manual labour, and a boy performing his worth for a girl by the pool. Kundera's first book in French, built over Vivant Denon's Point de lendemain.
