Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
The rebels are dug into an ice planet when imperial walkers find them, and the survivors scatter: one to a swamp world where a small creature in the reeds proves to be the teacher he was sent for, the others to a mining colony run by an old friend of the smuggler. Vader wants the boy alive and baits the trap accordingly. Kershner and Kasdan darkened the middle chapter and made the unresolved second act standard practice.
