The Day the Earth Stood Still

Robert Wise · 1951 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary

A saucer settles on the Ellipse in Washington, a man in a silver suit steps out holding a gift for the President and is shot by a nervous soldier, and an eight-foot robot melts the guns aimed at him. Unable to get the world's governments into one room, he walks out of Walter Reed and takes a boarding-house room as Mr Carpenter. Wise shot it in a newsreel register and Bernard Herrmann scored it for two theremins.
