The Sound of Music

Robert Wise · 1965 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary

A postulant too restless for her Salzburg abbey is sent as governess to a widowed naval officer who runs his seven children by boat whistle. She teaches them to sing, the household loosens, and Austria's annexation sets the officer's refusal to serve against everyone who has already agreed. Its record-breaking run pulled Twentieth Century-Fox out of the losses of Cleopatra and made the roadshow musical an industry strategy.
