The Last Samurai

Helen DeWitt · 2000 CE · Novel · Modern / American · Contemporary

Ludo, a child prodigy raised in London poverty by his unmarried mother Sibylla, learns Greek, Japanese and Hebrew from her while the two watch Kurosawa's Seven Samurai over and over. As he grows he starts to look for the father he has never been told about, auditioning candidates by their gifts. A cult first novel that mixes linguistics, music and film into its typography and structure.
