The Loved Ones

Alia Mamdouh · 2003 CE · Novel · Arabic · Contemporary

In Paris a group of Iraqi women exiles keeps vigil over a friend lying in a coma, and the woman's son narrates their stories and hers. Baghdad is recalled through each of them while the hospital waiting holds them in the present. Mamdouh, an Iraqi writer living in France, joins a tradition of exile fiction about women's solidarity in the Arabic novel.
