The Periodic Table

Primo Levi · 1975 CE · Narrative Non-fiction · Italian · Contemporary

Twenty-one chapters, each named for an element, run from a Piedmontese Jewish family's ancestors through a chemistry degree taken under the racial laws, the camps, and postwar work in a varnish factory. Some pieces are memoir and some are invented tales about matter and the men who handle it. A chemist's life told element by element; matter as memoir.
