The Slap

Christos Tsiolkas · 2008 CE · Novel · Australian · Contemporary

At a barbecue in suburban Melbourne a man slaps a child who is not his own, and the host's friends, family and neighbours divide over whether to call the police. Eight narrators, each from a different position of class, ethnicity and generation, tell the weeks that follow. It won the 2009 Commonwealth Writers' Prize and made Tsiolkas's name outside Australia.
