In the Heat of the Night

Norman Jewison · 1967 CE · Film · Modern / American · Contemporary

A Black man waiting for a train in a Mississippi town is arrested for a factory owner's murder on no evidence beyond the money in his wallet, and turns out to be a Philadelphia homicide detective. The police chief keeps him on the case because nobody else can read the body, and the two work the town's cotton money while neither concedes a thing. It took five Oscars at a ceremony postponed by the killing of Martin Luther King.
